Spain Residence Permit and Citizenship

One of the most popular relocation destinations in Europe. The golden visa ended in 2025; the remaining routes are the digital nomad visa and the non-lucrative visa for passive income. With Colombian citizenship, a Spanish passport takes 2 years of residence

The Colombia route

A Spanish passport in 2 years with Colombian citizenship

If your father or mother is a Colombian citizen, you are Colombian by birth, even if you were born outside Colombia. We register this citizenship through the Registraduría and then take you to Spain, where Colombians by birth need only 2 years of residence. The route works, and MERONN clients are going through it right now

  • Colombian citizenship from 3 months, with no visa, residence or exams
  • Spanish passport after 2 years of residence
  • No Spanish language exam, only the CCSE test
  • You keep your Colombian passport

FAQ

How much do I need to earn in 2026?
From €2,849 per month for a single applicant. This is 200% of the Spanish minimum interprofessional wage, which in 2026 is €17,094 per year. Add €1,068 per month for a spouse and for each child.
Can I work for a company outside Spain?
Yes. The restriction is not about the client's country but about the share of Spanish income: no more than 20%, and only for freelancers. The usual difficulty lies elsewhere: you need company documents legalised with an apostille and proof that the company has been operating for more than a year.
How much money do I need to show?
From €2,400 per month, that is €28,800 for a year ahead for a single applicant, plus €600 per month for each family member. Consulates review 12 months of statements and refuse if the amount arrived as a one-off transfer before applying.
Is it true that I cannot work remotely?
Yes. This permit explicitly excludes any work, including for foreign clients. If you keep working, you need the digital nomad visa, not this one.
Does a Colombian passport let me apply after two years?
Yes, if you are a Colombian citizen by birth. This also covers people born abroad to a Colombian father or mother: such citizenship is registered through the Registraduría and counts as citizenship by birth. In that case 2 years of legal residence in Spain are enough
Which days count towards the 2 years?
The count starts from the date the residence permit is issued, not from the move. Tourist and student days do not count. The digital nomad visa, non-lucrative residence, employment or business in Spain all qualify. You can travel, but in total no more than about 90 days over two years
